what i hate are wall bangers. people who want to complain at you first but are too damn lazy to walk over to your apartment to do so. of course what that does is inform me who the complainer is and this allows me to seek vengeance (such as throwing a bag of dope in their car and calling the cops). not so easy when they just call the landlord.

i stumbled onto a new way to make vias into my circuit boards. drill the holes to just about the diameter of a piece of bare copper wire, cleaning up any burrs with a large drill bit (usuallu just spinning it once with your fingers does the trick). jam the wire into the hole (it was a tight fit) until it pokes out the other side by about 1mm, and subsequently clip it off on the other side by the same amount. then i take an old hex driver a hammer and a block of metal (i used an old aluminum heat sink). stick the board so that the via (and bit o wire) sit over the block, stick the hex driver over the wire, and whack it. i get a nice clean flush rivet. i then cap off both sides with solder. its almost flush with the board. unfortunately my board was not aligned very well, so some of the holes are off by a few mm, so this only worked on the handful of holes that lined up.

I take it you haven't read the books then? I hvae read the books, but not seen the series, but still... It's a very good series, book or film, and I am actually suprised that you haven't started following it yet . Have fun!

Last Tuesday, I ran 1.5 miles in 21 minutes.  Thursday, 19:20.  Today, 18:40.  Progress!

Routinely hit 09:50 as my mile and a half time. Now It floats around 11:40-11:50

Finally got sick of my old, bulky, noisy, overclocked Q6700 being my HTPC and did some parts shuffling and some purchasing.

The Q6700 is back to being my main workhorse, with my old 4870.

I had been wanted to build an ITX system for quite some time, so I went and picked up:

CM Elite 120 Advanced
MSI H81I
Pentium G3420
4 GB DDR3 1333

And slapped it all together with my media drives and the Quadro 4000 I was given as payment for watching somebody's house while they were out of province. Cost me $272 CDN all told, and it now fits in my TV stand and doesn't make the girlfriend cringe at the size.

Honestly, with the exception of "many-program" multitasking, that Pentium is just about as fast as the old Q6700. And since I can only get about 3.15 Ghz on the Q6700 overclocked, the Pentium gets better single-threaded performance.
