Re: the endless paths of modeling lego ships
To be honest... The frigate doesn't look shivan. Even a little.

Just goes to show that you can't judge a ship before it's textured. We need more weird-looking shivan ships like this one.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

some progress with the texture
it's about half way done
This is... Awesome . But that cage-like structure ruins shivan "feel" of the frigate. Without it, it could be even a good succesor for Ravana

Re: the endless paths of modeling lego ships
the armour plating will be a seperate submodel, if someone wants to use the ship without it, he is encouraged to do so
but this ship is going to have very limited weapons, it's intended as a ship that launches swarms of drones for attack

Re: the endless paths of modeling lego ships
Definitely does look more Shivan, now that it's textured. Still doesn't have the jagged look that I'd expect from Shivans, but overall, I approve.
"We have now reached the point where every goon with a grievance, every bitter bigot, merely has to place the prefix, 'I know this is not politically correct, but...' in front of the usual string of insults in order to be not just safe from criticism, but actually a card, a lad, even a hero. Conversely, to talk about poverty and inequality, to draw attention to the reality that discrimination and injustice are still facts of life, is to commit the sin of political correctness. Anti-PC has become the latest cover for creeps. It is a godsend for every curmudgeon and crank, from fascists to the merely smug."

I still don't like the front too much, like, the four red "eye" things, but it's a pretty cool model overall.

Re: the endless paths of modeling lego ships
These shivan looking ships you're making. What are these ships gonna be? What will be their role. So far the ship looks very Shivan like while at the same time looking very utilitarian. Basically combining both designs into one. Very interesting work, and nice job with the strike bomber so far.

the Beezeboul has limited anti capital weapons, and is intended for fighter supression, in the form of launching big swarms of drones

in other news: updated the p3d link of the Raptor, which is the aforementioned strikebomber
the basic model is complete :)
i will set up the texture to use team colors

Re: the endless paths of modeling lego ships
added download links for the Beezeboul and the Imp
the frigate is still suffering from the strange crashes in debug mode, but works on the normal exe, i'm not sure if the crashes in debug mode are a local problem on my PC or a problemwith the model

here are some screens of the frigate in action:

Re: the endless paths of modeling lego ships
very nice models! Do you use some kind of preshaped standardized meshes for lego pieces? Or do you use a specific software?

Re: the endless paths of modeling lego ships
nope, everything is modelled by hand and changed as i see fit, although those last models are pretty damn close to the original i suppose
